This weekly series is an invitation to arrive at rope properly—whether you’re stepping in for the first time or returning to untangle habits and reconnect with the why behind your ties. Class 0 is about slowing down, feeling more, and building skill through intention. The focus sits firmly on the essential language of Japanese-inspired rope bondage.

You’re welcome to drop in, but rope rewards repetition. Committing to the full term allows technique, confidence, and connection to deepen week by week.

Inside Class 0
Class 0 is where everything begins—the base layer that supports all future rope play.

Students who attend all 8 classes, or who demonstrate readiness to progress, will be invited to graduate to Class 1 by performing in a complimentary 9th class held at the end of the course.

Topics include (but aren’t limited to):

• Explicit, informed consent and how to reclaim it mid-scene
• Choosing rope, understanding lengths, and selecting safety cutters
• Setting tone, pace, and presence
• Columns, cuffs, and their variations
• Frictions, isolations, locks, and knots
• Directionality and reading rope flow
• Introducing and sustaining tension
• Core rope handling skills
• Basic body mechanics
• Risk awareness and decision-making for floor work
• Scene crafting
• Rope etiquette and shared space awareness
• One-rope explorations — intimacy, restriction, and play with minimal tools

Content may evolve slightly depending on the group.

Participants are encouraged to document their learning with notes and photos, and to practise between sessions to let the work settle into the body.

  Smart glasses are permitted for class use only
• Notepad and pen
• A blindfold
• Rope and safety cutters (if you have them)

House rope and cutters are available if needed.

Your Teacher

Your facilitator, Claire (Jute Rope Claire), is the founder of Tether Salon, where she also curates events.

With more than seven years devoted to rope bondage, Claire’s practice is shaped by personal exploration, continued study, and learning from respected local, interstate, and international educators. Her Shibari journey began in 2018 at Urban Fetish, sparked by a first rope experience that fundamentally altered her relationship with sensation, stillness, and safety.

Grounded in Japanese aesthetics and informed by a rope switch’s perspective, her style blends sensuality, sadism, and domination. Influenced by teachers including Namakai (Red Rigger), Evil Girls, Supaku, Sparks & Rope Tales, and visiting Naka Akira in Japan, Claire brings a considered, expressive approach to form, suspension, transitions, and rope as lived experience.
